World Penguin Day is on 25 April
Join us as we shine a spotlight on our beloved Humboldt Penguins on World Penguin day, and beyond!
We are holding a programme of special events and intend to keep the party going all the way through the weekend!
Discover the fabulous world of penguins
With over 60 penguins residing at our Penguin Beach, come 60 different penguin personalities to fall in love with. As special animal ambassadors for London Zoo, our Humboldt penguins can certainly teach us a lot about how incredible their species are.
Learn about their unique behaviours, habitat and adaptations as well as the conservation efforts to protect them in the wild. With plastics found in over 80% of marine birds, you will also be supporting our overarching charity, ZSL, to work for wildlife around the world by visiting us on this special occasion.
Penguin activities at London Zoo
Whether you’re a penguin fan, nature lover, or just looking for a fun activity in London this April, our World Penguin Day & Weekend event has something for all ages. Enjoy interactive exhibits, quizzes, games and prizes, engaging talks and zookeeper Q&A’s plus more (see below for a full schedule of activities). There are only three days of exclusive penguin partying so you don't want to miss out!
Member, Fellow and Patron special: Collect a penguin pin badge!
On all three celebration days (25, 27, 28 April), you can snap up your very own pin badge to celebrate this incredible species. Simply pop over to Penguin Beach when activities take place and show your membership card to a member of staff or volunteer at the gazebos. But hurry, the pin badges are limited and will be handed out on a first-come first-served basis.
Become a member and you can also enjoy a whole year of unlimited Zoo visits including other animal celebration days!
Full Events Programme
Penguin Talk, Bubble Party, and Keeper Q&A
11:30 am, 1:30 pm, & 4:30 pm
Join us for our daily penguin talk but with bubbles! Enjoy watching our penguins playing with bubbles while we tell you all about them. Once you've discovered plenty of penguin facts, stick around for a Q&A with one of our expert penguin zookeepers.
If you join us for the 1:30 pm session, get your thinking caps on... there will be a penguin competition with penguin prizes to be won!
All day: crafts, challenges, artefacts, and prizes
10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Learn even more about penguins by taking a closer look at some of our penguin artefacts.
Make a friendship bracelet to match our penguin! Our penguins all wear special bracelets that help us to identify them. Join our craft table to use our penguin ID chart to make your own bracelet that matches our penguin or create your own unique beaded bracelet!
Have a go at identifying some of our 60 penguins using our penguin ID chart.
Look out for some special Golden Tickets that will give some lucky visitors the chance to feed our penguins a fishy snack!

McVities Penguin at the Zoo
We’ve teamed up with McVities Penguin to get young people and their families closer to nature, because building knowledge about animals is the first step towards protecting them. We’ll working together to inspire more people to care for our planet, while also helping to fund our global conservation impact.
We’ll be bringing fun facts from our Zookeepers to new audiences through an on-pack design and celebrating wildlife together at Penguin Beach.
