Tour and Champagne upgrades*

Unravel the mysteries of sex in the animal kingdom with a guided tour, or enjoy a glass of champagne at Penguin Beach. Head to Barclay Court or Penguin Beach to book on the day.

Tickets for Zoo Nights 2024 are now sold out. 

From 6pm every Friday evening in July, you're invited to enjoy an unmissable evening at London Zoo. 

Explore our world of wildlife in the heart of the city with interactive games, animal talks and The Origin of the Faeces exhibition. After you’ve worked up an appetite, discover our Wild Bites street food market serving up fantastic flavours from across the globe, with plenty of choice for herbivores and carnivores. Then grab a drink from one of our watering holes and chill out surrounded by relaxing music and our incredible animals. 

Add a touch of luxury to your evening with a champagne experience* at Penguin Beach or learn what our animals really get up to after dark with a Birds and The Bees tour upgrade*. Head to Barclay Court (for tours) or Penguin Beach (for champagne) on the day to check availability and book your upgrade. 

Please note: Our animals have varying bedtimes throughout the evening, starting from 8.30pm onwards. We strongly advise arriving with enough time to make the most of the evening and see our animals before they wind down for bed.

What to expect from an evening at Zoo Nights

  • Asiatic lion cub at London Zoo

    See our adorable lion cub trio

    Head over to Land of the Lions to see Mali, Syanii and Shanti, our 3 month old Asiatic lion cubs. Join our lion talk at 6.30pm or 8pm to learn more about them and their parents Bhanu and Arya.

    Wild Bites street food market

    Take your pick of London’s finest food pop-ups, serving up fantastic flavours and unique dishes. Wild Bites international food market from Fuel Experiences has something for everyone, from street food classics to authentic bites from across the globe. Plus, delicious desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth! Our vendor selection rotates with every event, allowing visitors to enjoy a fresh choice every night, with plant-based options always on offer.

    From penguins to giraffes and monkeys to tigers, there’s a whole host of animal talks to enjoy throughout the evening. Pick up a printed Zoo Nights planner on the night or checkout our FAQs at the bottom of this page to see a full list of talk times.

    Watering holes

    Here, you’ll find everything from summery cocktails, to beer on tap, alcoholic slushies, boozy shakes and wines. Plus, an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages to suite your taste.

  • Retail therapy

    Our Zoo shop will be open late for all those must-have purchases and mementos. We recommend heading here early on in the evening to avoid the late night queues.

  • The Origin of the Faeces exhibition

    Explore the weird and wonderful world of animal poo! This exhibition from Tracey Lee, former senior zookeeper at London Zoo, boasts over 100 preserved poo specimens, courtesy of endangered gorillas, Sumatran tigers, and even the droppings of a Galapagos tortoise.

  • Flippery Shots and Flops*

    You’ll need good aim for this one. Head over to our grade 1 listed Lubetkin Penguin Pool to see if you can take pole position in this penguin-themed game and win yourself a prize!

    Marshmallow toasting*

    Roast a marshmallow over the open fire. Choose from cinnamon, salted caramel, mint choc chip and vanilla (vegan option available). You can even add flavours and sauces or make yours into a s’more!

    Face painting isn’t just for kids. Whether it’s a majestic butterfly or full-on tiger stripes, transform into your favourite animal at our face painting station!

    Play everyone’s favourite pub quiz game with an animal twist! Pop into the Terrace Restaurant at 9pm or 9.30pm for the chance to win some Zoo-tastic prizes!

    Birds and the Bees tour upgrade*

    Find out what our animals really get up to after dark with a Birds and The Bees guided tour, where our expert guides will help you unravel the mysteries of sex in the animal kingdom. If we have availability, you can book tours on the day from our kiosk in Barclay Court.

    Champagne experience upgrade*

    Add a touch of luxury to your evening, with a glass of bubbly at Penguin Beach. Champagne upgrade guests will have exclusive access to the decking overlooking our black and white flippered friends. Book for 18.15 or 19.25 to have your experience during our evening talks, for the best view of our penguins having their dinner! If we have availability, you can book champagne upgrades on the day from Penguin Beach. Head straight there when you arrive at the Zoo for the best availability.

Frequently asked questions

How long will the event last?

Gates will open for Zoo Nights at 6pm, with last entry at 9pm. The event will finish at 10pm. 

Zoo Nights tickets do not include entry to the Zoo during the day.

Are Zoo Nights tickets included in my membership?

As this is a special event, members will need to book Zoo Nights tickets separately in advance. Entry is not included as part of the Gold or Silver membership packages.

Can I use Universal Credit tickets for Zoo Nights?

Unfortunately because Zoo Nights is a special ticketed event, Universal Credit tickets cannot be used for Zoo Nights admissions. 

What are the animal bedtimes?

Our animals have varying bedtimes throughout the evening, starting from 8.30pm onwards. We strongly advise arriving with enough time to make the most of the evening and see our animals before they wind down for bed.

All animal habitats will close at 9.00pm, apart from:
Rainforest & Lemurs – 8.30pm
Blackburn Pavilion – 8.30pm
Penguins – 9.30pm
Secret Life of Reptiles – 9.30pm
Tiny Giants – 9.30pm
Gorilla Kingdom – Please check the time at the entrance of gorillas.

How can I attend the event with my carer?

For visitors needing to attend the event with a carer, entry is free for one carer. Please bring along your supporting documentation on your visit to Zoo Nights and our admissions team can issue your carer a ticket. Your supporting documentation can be: 

  • Disability Allowance Letter
  • PIP letter
  • Freedom pass
  • Any other appropriate supporting documentation as issued by your local authority.
Can I hire a mobility aid at the event?

If you would like to book a wheelchair or mobility scooter for Zoo Nights event please email [email protected] ahead of your visit so we can arrange this for you. Whilst mobility aids can be hired on site on the day, we only have a limited number available, so we'd recommend you email to secure one in advance of your visit. Prices for hiring mobility aids can be found on our accessibility page under the dropdown 'Hiring Mobility Aids'.

Will there be a Zoo Nights Pride takeover this year?

Yes! Our Zoo Nights event on 28 June was a Pride takeover night. 
 

What time do the animal talks take place?

Our animal talks will take place every Friday throughout the evening at the following times:

How long do the champagne and tour upgrades last?

Our Champagne experience upgrade lasts for 30 minutes and you'll get one glass of fizz (or non-alcoholic alternative) per person. Tickets must be booked in pairs. 

Our Birds and The Bees tour upgrade lasts for approximately 30 minutes. 

Can I bring in food and drink to Zoo Nights?

Drinks and liquids cannot be brought into the Zoo at Zoo Nights. You may be asked to empty your bottle at the gate but there are water refill stations in the Zoo (look out for the water drop sign on the maps). 

Visitors can bring their own food into the Zoo but we also have a fantastic array of street food vendors on site, especially for Zoo Nights.

How old do I have to be to attend Zoo Nights?

Zoo Nights is an adult only event, therefore all ticket holders must be 18 years or older. If you're lucky enough to look under 25, we might check for proof of age on the gate, so please make sure you bring a form of ID with you. 

What extra activities can I expect as part of the Zoo Nights Pride Takeover on 28 June?

As part of our Zoo nights Pride Takeover on 28 June, we'll have: 

  • Special guest Ella Vaday will be at Zoo Nights hosting our animal gameshow and taking part in meet and greets.
  • Themed Pride animal talks.
  • Pride hub on the main lawn with stickers and badges.
  • Pride quizzes.
  • Opportunities to learn about LGBTQ+ behaviours in nature.
  • Opportunity to learn about influential LGBTQ+ figures within the science & conservation industry.
  • Pride-themed face painting.

There will also be gender-neutral toilets available on site at our Pride Takeover event. 

What do I get included in a Zoo Nights VIP Sleepover?

Our VIP sleepover allows you to enjoy all the fun of Zoo Nights, without having to go home! Stay over at the zoo in our en-suite lodges, right in the heart of Land of the Lions. In the morning you will get to enjoy a buffet breakfast, and then an exclusive tour before the zoo opens.

Included in this experience: 

  • A complimentary drink upon arrival
  • An overnight stay in a private lodge - double or twin bed, en-suite, complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities
  • A buffet breakfast
  • One exclusive tour in the morning after breakfast
  • Entry to our Zoo Nights adults-only event
  • Dinner vouchers for our onsite food vendors
  • Free entry into London Zoo for two days either side of your night's stay. You are also welcome to visit Whipsnade Zoo on your second day
