200 years of wildlife and wonder
London Zoo is more than just a Zoo, we’re part of an iconic organisation with expertise spanning 200 years!
ZSL is the international science-driven conservation charity behind London Zoo, and we're celebrating our big bicentenary this year.
To mark our milestone birthday, there are so many events and activities for you to get involved in, including this interactive exhibition, free to explore with Zoo entry or membership. Discover our rich heritage and take some fun photos too!
The ZSL at 200 Exhibition
Did you know, that Winnie-the-Pooh was inspired by a bear living at London Zoo? Or that our fish house was the first public aquarium? This vibrant installation in the heart of the Zoo invites you to see ZSL’s story - and your place within it – in a whole new way.
The exhibition explores six key themes:
- Leaps and Bounds
- Women and Wildlife
- Zoo and You
- Pop Culture
- Grand Designs
- The Future
Transport yourself back in time as you walk around a large, colourful cube, with each of its sides representing a different part of ZSL’s history.
Alongside it, a pop culture tower of giant books, television screens and stereos illustrates ZSL’s influence across film, literature and art, and a listening bench offers a reflective space to hear the hopes for the future of wildlife from the next generation.
The ZSL at 200 exhibition is included in your Zoo ticket or membership and will be open to explore until the end of 2026.
