A result of their ‘internet-fame’, a demand for capybaras as pets is growing. We're working to educate our visitors on why the giant rodents don’t make good pets, and how we can all help to discourage poor animal practises.

Visit capybaras at London Zoo
If you're a capybara enthusiast, you're in for a treat at London Zoo! You can see them just metres away as we're home to an incredibly chilled capybara duo, Gizmo and Kiwi. The siblings are charismatic, friendly animals, who love a belly scratch, and they've been a huge hit with visitors.
After settling in so well with us, they’ll be staying at London Zoo permanently. We’ve created a brand new spa-inspired pad for them next to ZooTown, complete with two pools, mud-bath wallows and climate-controlled zones.
Did you know, capybaras are a semi-aquatic species, and they're the world's biggest rodents? Learn all about our brother-sister duo, see some of their baby photos, and swat up on your capybara knowledge ahead of your visit.

We've raised the capy-bar-a by introducing a behind-the-scenes encounter with your favourites. Join our zookeepers to meet Gizmo and Kiwi, discover the science of positive reinforcement training, plus help out with a training session.
This unforgettable experience is extremely popular so don't delay! Book your encounter online in advance for a specific date, or you can buy as a gift voucher for a loved one to book on a date of their choosing. There's a 10% discount for Gold Members too.
