Plans for essential works at London and Whipsnade Zoo over the coming months
As leading conservation zoos and world-famous tourist attractions, it is vital that we provide the best possible habitats for the animals in our care, and we strive to always offer the best possible visitor experience. To help us do that for years to come, essential works will be carried out over the coming months.

The Terrace restaurant refurbishment
London Zoo
Work commenced on 21 January through to middle of April
We’re upgrading the existing restrooms within The Terrace restaurant building while providing additional toilets elsewhere. In addition, a small refurbishment of the catering area in the restaurant will be carried out over 3 weeks, all while you’ll still be able to enjoy a meal or drink in the restaurant.
Tree work in Tiger Territory
London Zoo
For one day only on 7 March, essential tree work will be carried out which means our family of Sumatran Tigers will remain in their indoor spaces.
Into Africa upgrades
London Zoo
Work likely starting at the end of February until the end of April
We’re upgrading the current fencing of the African wild dogs and warthogs in the Into Africa habitat as well as the tarmac. You’ll still be able to see the animals during the works if they choose to be in their outdoor paddock.
Tiger paddock improvements
Whipsnade Zoo
Work commenced already and is set to finish end of February
While we’re sprucing up the tiger enclosure and the visitor walkways around the enclosure, Whipsnade Zoo’s Amur tiger Czar won’t be in his enclosure.
New covered seating
Whipsnade Zoo
Work already in progress until April
You may have already seen the works in the Base Camp area at Whipsnade Zoo! We’re getting picnic shelters ready for you, so you can soon find more outdoor covered seating to enjoy your own picnics or delicious snacks from our restaurants and catering outlets at the Zoo!
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of improvement and hope that you will continue to visit and enjoy the Zoos.
