Free supervising adults

The health and safety of our visitors is one of our main priorities. To help ensure this, all students must be supervised whilst in the Zoo.

Those aged 16 or under must always be with a designated adult from your school whilst in the zoo, as part of our supervision policy. To support this, educational groups bringing children aged 16 or under are entitled to 1 free supervising adult ticket for every 5 paying students.

Students aged 17 or over do not need to be with an adult at all times, but school staff must be in the zoo and contactable during the trip. To support this, Post-16 or Higher Education groups, are entitled to one free teacher is able to accompany the group for every 10 paying students. These supervising adults must stay on-site whilst students are in the zoo, as part of our supervision policy.

All students with a diagnosed learning need or disability are entitled to bring an additional 1:1 adult at no extra cost, which is not included in the ratio’s described above.

Paying for your trip

All education rate tickets, and other paid-for services such as workshops, must be confirmed and paid for at least two weeks before the date of the trip/activity via one of the following ways:

  • BACS payment: You must include your Order Number as reference with the payment in order for us to match the payment to your trip. Failure to do so may result in us being unable to identify your trip as paid-for and may result in delays to your visit.
  • Debit or credit card: Please call 0344 225 1826 to make payment in this way, and quote your booking Order Number

We do not accept cash or cheque payments, nor can payment be made on the day.

If a school have not paid for their trip by the date of their visit, the debt owed will be passed on to our finance team who will generate a new invoice which will be sent to the school. This will include an additional £25 administration fee. ZSL reserves the right to cancel or refuse entry to any group who have not paid in advance of their trip nor made prior arrangement with ZSL to pay after the visit/activity.
