Outdoor family fun in the sun

11 things to do this summer at London Zoo

20 June 2025

With thousands of animals, special events, and outdoor fun, enjoy the sunshine with a trip to London Zoo! Here are our top activities not to miss this summer.

1. Join the Zoo Crew

Calling all young explorers! From 23 July - 1 September, we're inviting budding young animal lovers to become part of our Zoo Crew

We’re packing the summer holidays with fun roleplay and costume dress-up activities, so kids can explore what it’s like to work at London Zoo, from feeding the animals to caring for their health and even helping protect them in the wild.

All activities are included in your Zoo entry or membership

2. Meet our newest residents

We've raised the capy-bar-a with the arrival of two of the world's biggest rodents! Capybaras Gizmo and Kiwi are enjoying a summer in the city before they move to our sister site, Whipsnade Zoo, later this year. Don't miss the brother and sister duo exploring their new pad, and taking a cooling dip in their pool.

3. See super species in action

Sit on the grassy bank on our display lawn and enjoy Super Species Live, where you can get up close and personal with astonishing animals from around the world. We have a varied programme of daily talks throughout the day where you can learn more about our residents and find out how their natural behaviours help them thrive in wild.

Download our app to stay in the loop with our talks and receive handy reminders so you don't miss them.

4. Swing by the squirrel monkeys

Soak up the sun with a stroll through the squirrel monkey walk-through, which is open to the skies of the capital with no boundaries between you and the troop. Just like us, the primates love an icy treat in the sunshine - you can pick yours up from one of our many shops and catering outlets. Don’t forget, Gold members get 10% off in our shops and restaurants.

5. Make a splash

Our Animal Adventure playpark is a perfect opportunity for your young explorers to learn about the Zoo’s animals as they play. And during the summer months, bring a spare set of clothes and jump into our splash zone! (Please note, we may have to close the Splash Zone for maintenance at short notice and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause).

You can take a pitstop at Peckish Parrot to keep energy levels up with hot and cold drinks and plenty of snacks to choose from.

6. Laze around with our big cats

There's nothing our big cats love more than a good snooze, especially when the sun is shining. Pop by Land of the Lions and Tiger Territory to spot these fantastic felines lazing in the sun. You might even see our tigers beating the heat in their private pool.

7. Move through Madagascar

Get closer to the action than ever before with our In with the Lemurs walk-through, taking you on a journey through the Madagascan shrub forest. Renowned sun-worshippers, the lemurs love nothing more than an afternoon spent sunbathing. With this in mind, our dedicated architects carefully mapped the path of sunlight in the lemurs' habitat to ensure their basking platforms are purposefully located to maximise lounging time.

8. Hit the beach

What better way to spend a sunny day than visiting a beach filled with penguins! Watch the Humboldt penguins sunbathing or porpoising through the water. We've got some fantastic underwater viewing areas, including our penguin bubble. And why not grab a shake or an ice cream sundae from our Penguin Beach Café?

9. Journey through a South American rainforest

We all know that summer in the UK isn't always filled with glorious sunshine. If the weather isn't on your side, escape to warmer climes in Rainforest Life - London's only living rainforest. This walk-through habitat is home to sloths, titi monkeys, and more.

There are plenty of sheltered spaces and indoor areas if you need them - here's our wet weather guide, just in case.

10. See the Zoo in a whole new light

Zoo Nights 2023 - Three women toasting marshmallows

Zoo Nights is over for 2025 and has been a sell-out! Register your interest for next year's event to join us after hours next summer. Leave the kids at home and make the most of the lighter evenings as the Zoo opens up just for adults!

11. Go exploring

After a day out at London Zoo, why not explore the neighbouring areas before heading home? Take a stroll through Regent's Park, home to an open air theatre, large lake and a beautiful rose garden. Enjoy spectacular views from the top of Primrose Hill. Or wander along the canal to Camden Market, home to street food from around the world, and unique gifts.

Chill out at London Zoo this summer - every visit supports our vital conservation work protecting wildlife and habitats around the world. So what are you waiting for?
